Actions to Embrace the Seasons of Life

Published On: March 15th, 2022
Earlier this month our Guest Thriver, Yasmine Young, wrote about how we can embrace the seasons of life.  Now we get to intentionally take action around her concepts of reporting, refining, restoring, and reflecting.

Which season of life do you find yourself in today?  Maybe you see a part of you in several of the stages.  I invite you to engage around whichever one feels the most right for you.

Start this reflection by grounding yourself with breath.  Doing this exercise is a step into self-love and self-care.

  • Maybe breathing in, “I am worthy of healing and wholeness,” will help you ease into this time.

  • Take three deep breaths and notice your body relaxing into the space.

  • Reflect upon the poem offered in the March 1st blog:

The ebbs and flows of life.

The ups and downs of strife.

Seasons come and go, feeling like an eternity.

Yet before we know it, we return to normalcy.

Poem by Guest Thriver, Yasmine Young

The Critical Season of Reporting

Are you growing in awareness that something is taking place, there is something you need to be aware of and take action?  Are you ready to begin to seek answers for the woundedness you are sensing?

Taking an objective look at the situation may help you truly see what is going on within your mind and spirit.  If you were a true “reporter”, what would you note of things happening within and around you?

  • What behaviors have you noticed?

  • What are you taking in about the scene and events?

  • What is your “sense” of what is going on?

  • Is there a “back story” that needs to be captured to complete the picture?

The Refining Season

Why do you think this season is important?  (Especially if the sorting out thoughts and actions as well as decision to change may be painful.)  Just like the leaves that need to be shed to allow for new growth, some parts of your life need to be released to allow you to embrace the new.

  • What do you need to release?

  • For what would this create space?

  • What resources do you have to weather the refining season?

The Restoring Season requires a commitment of surrender.

By surrendering, you choose to say, “No more!”  You release those things to a power greater than yourself so that transformation of your heart and soul can occur.

  • What must you accept that you cannot change?

  • What about your past must you face and name?

  • What emotional baggage is holding you back?

Some tools to move you through this season are:

  • Speak affirmations to yourself to encourage you to release the pain.

  • Consider an act of sacrificial forgiveness to move into the healing you deserve.

    • Find your voice to reach out to the offender (if this is safe for you and the right time for that call or visit). Feel your power to speak your truth in love, and begin to experience your freedom.

    • Sometimes the person(s) that has hurt you is no longer here, so in this case you can write them a letter, read it in the mirror out loud, and then burn it.

The Final Season of Reflecting.

Honor your journey by making sense of the experiences that were once so pain-filled.

  • How did what you experienced make you who you are today?

  • How has it led to you finding and claiming your voice?

  • What purpose do you sense for yourself despite your past?

Engaging with a support community in this season will help you to continue to grow into your thriving self.  Survivors to Thrivers seeks to be that encouraging community through:
